The first day

Group work#1

In this group work, each group discusses the plan for Fieldwork #1 in the 2nd day. They have to survey the target place of the fieldwork, and discuss the point of observing.

The purpose of the fieldwork is finding insights included in the situation. Thus, they have to observe as a person concerned. So they have to make clear the target person and the viewpoints.

Mini-presentation #1

Each member show the plan and the reason. Staffs give them feedbacks.

Check point

  1. Is the target (persona) clear?
  2. Is the viewpoint of observing clear?
  3. Is the plan feasible?

Group work #2

Modify the fieldwork plan by considering the comments from the staffs.

The second day

Lecture #1

A lecture is given for the participants. The topic is flexible, but it is better to help participants to make a new idea and presentations.

Fieldwork #1

Observing the target place to find insight. Interviews are conducted if it is needed.

Group work #3

Summarize the insights which obtained in the fieldwork. Cognitive walk through map and TCS Sheets can be used in the group work.

Cognitive walk through map

First, the participants write a map of the area, and decide some target persons and make their figures. Then, move figures of target person in the map by discussing the behaviors on the area. They should consider the person's whole behaviors in a day, from the morning to the night. They also should consider the reasons of each behavior.

TCS Sheet

Tensions/Contradictions/Surprisings (TCS) sheet can be used for summarize the insights they found. (You can find the template blow)

Mini-presentation #2

Show the insights found in the fieldwork. Each team explain what they found in the fieldwork with the TCS sheet which they made.

Group work #4

Re-consider the insights by considering the comments given in the mini-presentation. After that, Make a newspaper and display in on the wall in the room.

The third day

Lecture #2

A lecture is given for the participants. The topic is flexible, but it is better to help participants to make a new idea and presentations.

Fieldwork #2

Observing the target place to find the hints to solve the problem hidden in the insights which they found.

Group work #5

Summarize the hints which obtained in the fieldwork. Make a draft idea to solve the problem.

Check points

  1. Do they make the target user images clear? (persona)
  2. Are they discussing from the view points of the persona?
  3. Is the concept of the draft idea clear?

Mini-presentation #3

Show the draft idea. Each team shows 1) target persons, 2) situations, 3) problem in the situation, 4) how to solve the problem.

Group work #6

Modify the draft idea.

The fourth day

Group work #7

Prepare the final presentation. In the presentation each group must show:

  1. Background; insight and hints they found in the fieldworks.
  2. outline of proposal; an idea to solve the problem.
  3. conclusion; how to change the situation with the idea.

Final presentation

Each team make the presentation in 10-15 min. followed by 10-15 min. discussion (The host can decide the time depend on the situation, but each team should have the same time).

After presentation, each team submits the presentation file (PDF format) as the outcome of the group work.
