“Designing Innovation Friendly to Elder Tourists in Chiang Mai”

As societies age worldwide, how can we redesign tourism experiences to be more inclusive, comfortable, and joyful for senior travelers?

At IEDC 2026, you will work in international teams to apply design thinking and develop innovative ideas or prototypes that enhance the travel experience for elderly visitors in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai is a city where heritage meets innovation.

• 🏯 A former Lanna Kingdom capital with over 700 years of history

• 🌄 Surrounded by mountains, forests, and natural beauty

• 🌿 Known for wellness tourism, traditional crafts, and warm hospitality

• 🎨 A creative city blending culture, sustainability, and modern design

Participants will explore the Old City, senior wellness facilities at CMU, local temples, and cultural landmarks, gaining real insights to inspire human-centered solutions.

Host: Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University (IEDC 2026)
Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Accommodation: The Core Gallery Hotel
Duration: 6 days / 5 nights
Dates: 31 August 2026 (Mon.) – 5 September 2026 (Sat.)
Participation Fee: 8,000 THB per person (Includes accommodation, program activities, and meals. Airfare is not included.)

🎯 Mission

Your challenge is to: Develop an innovative idea or prototype that makes Chiang Mai a happier, safer and more accessible destination for elderly tourists.
